Continue along the Golden Circle route with a stop at Strokkur Geyser and Gulfoss Waterfall and Kerið Crater. Continue southeast and stop on Seljandfoss and Skogafoss waterfalls and Eyjafjallajökull volcano (exploded in 2010). Accommodation in Reykjavik.

3.day

Climbing Mount ESJA (914 m above sea level), which rises monumentally above Reykjavik, creating the central point of the city’s panorama. The ascent also serves to inspect the gear and the final tuning before leaving the capital.

4.day

Reykjavík- Landmannalaugar- Hrafntinnusker

The adventure begins with a morning bus transfer from Reykjavik to Landmannalaugar. A journey to the southeast for about 4 hours offers views of the most active volcano of Hekla. Upon arrival in Landmannalaugar, we will have the opportunity to swim in one of Iceland’s most beautiful natural swimming pools. Next, let’s go after an undemanding tour to the first camp. This leads through a slight climb around the Stórihver fairy tales and, in combination with the rainbow colored mountains, creates an unusual scenic experience. Photo lovers will definitely find their way. After crossing the rainbow mountains we reach the unexpectedly open scree area of the first Hrafntinnusker camp, one of the most remote on the island.

Hike length: 12 km, Duration: 4-5 h, Elevation climb: 470 m

5.day

Hrafntinnusker- Álftavatn

After breakfast, continue along the Reykjafjoll Mountain, followed by a descent to Jokultungur. The rocks in this area have a yellow-red color due to the strong geothermal activity. From the top of Jokultungur we will be able to see the vast plan of Fjallback and Lake Alftavatn, which will be our next night. The first ford is waiting for our campsite.

Hike length: 12 km, Duration: 4-5 h, Elevation climb: 490m.

6.day

Álftavatn- Lake Emstrur

We start the day with a refreshing and even more ford. It is also the beginning of the Mælifellssandur Black Desert. During this tour we will go around the Hattafell volcano with a flat top. In the distance, the majestic volcanic glaciers Eyjafjallajökull and Mýrdalsjökull begin to open. Before entering the Botnar campsite, we turn to a view of the almost 200m deep canyon formed by the glacier river Markarfljót. Our campsite is surprisingly in the literally green Botnar oasis.

Hike length: 15km, Duration: 6-7h, Elevation climb: 40m

7.day

Emstrur- Þorsmork

Leaving Emstrur and heading along the canyon to mórmörk. After a few kilometers, we get out of reach of the Mýrdalsjökull glacier by a slight descent, and we will see literally a few hours’ transition from desert to vegetation. As a symbol that we move away from the glaciers, the Einhyrningur photogenic mountain turns off in the distance, passing by and gradually entering the Almenningar area, whose climate is already coastal. The first trees, bush and greenery in contrast to the Myrdalsjokull and Eyjafjallajökull glaciers create an absurdly beautiful contrast. The general genius of loci of the seaside climate, glaciers, black deserts, dozens of smaller and larger volcanic mountains, and the vegetation set in it, is simply a view of pricelessness.

The Þorsmork campsite has a fully functional restaurant with a rich menu, a sauna and a small thermal pool.

Hike length: 15km, Duration: 6-7h, Elevation climb: 300m

8.day

The day is dedicated to rest and absorption of previous experiences. The beautiful Þosrmork area is an ideal place to relax after a long day hike. Afternoon transfer to Reykjavik and the opportunity to enjoy the evening city again.

Alternativ program:
Þosrmork- Skogar

For those who might have enough strength and taste, there is a possibility to cross between the glacier peaks Eyjafjallajökull and Mýrdalsjökull. It is still possible to observe the remains of the Eyjafjallajökull eruption during the tour in 2010. Trek is beautiful but requires physical fitness and, in some exposed areas, also unsuitable for people suffering from dizziness. In the summer season this is a technically simple transition. After 12 km from the beginning of the mororsmorka exit, the fully functional Fimmvörðuskáli chalet is situated on the road, where it is possible to sleep for a fee if necessary.

This alternative requires an extra day, which would have to be addressed before signing the Tour Agreement before buying the tickets.

Hike length: 24km, Duration: 9-10h, Elevation climb: 1000m

9.day

After breakfast transfer to airport and departure. In the case of good visibility, the Eyjafjallajökull and Mýrdalsjökull glaciers, as well as the green Þorsmork in contrast to the black desert, can be seen from the left side of the deck.

Required equipment:

For your personal comfort and safety, we recommend the following equipment. First of all, during the overnight stay to keep you warm and dry and have the most energy for the next day. Iceland has a reputation for very variable weather and therefore waterproof gear from shoes, trousers and jacket is essential. Cotton linen is not suitable for this kind of more day tour (jeans or cotton t-shirts). Mountain hiking materials will give you more comfort and you will enjoy your adventure.

Shoes and clothing:

  • Reliable, already finished waterproof trekking boots with good support for the ankles,
  • sandals with good soles or “crocuses” for wading streams,
  • warm underwear (wool / merino recommended),
  • T-shirt with short and long sleeves,
  • comfortable socks (wool or synthetic, 2-3 pairs),
  • fleece or polar jacket (thin down jacket is also suitable),
  • comfortable functional pants with good ventilation best of fast drying material,
  • waterproof jacket with hood and trousers (Gore-tex, Event or various other membranes),
  • gloves – two pairs of different thickness,
  • a cap,
  • swimsuit.

Sleeping and kitchen:

  • three-season sleeping bag (comfort around 0 ° C),
  • foam mat (inflatable eg Therm-a-rest is a suitable alternative for those colder ones),
  • tent (with suitable windproof construction and also with higher water column),
  • cooker – we recommend gas for easier filling availability,
  • mess, spoon, fork, knife.

Other equipment

  • backpack – approx. 50L, comfortable with firm back construction,
  • toiletry (brush, paste, sunscreen),
  • water bottle,
  • first aid kit.

Voluntary equipment

  • headlamp,
  • sunglasses,
  • trekking poles (suitable especially for wading, but they will also save you a lot of energy when walking),
  • ears,
  • Sleeves,
  • dry bag.

Food and additional equipment:

In the first camp Landmannalaugar, where we start, you can buy additional groceries, gas, toiletries in a small shop. It is also possible to dine in a makeshift restaurant. Toilets and showers available.

Hrafntinnusker Camp is more modest than Landmannalaugar does not offer showers or food to buy.

Camping near the lake Alftavatn is on a very decent level with the possibility of hot food, buying food, toiletries, gas for cooking, recharging batteries for a fee of about 3.5EUR, showers for the same fee, toilets.

Emstrur-Botnar Camp is a service and equipment similar to the previous Alftavatn campsite.

We will fine-tune the logistic preparation around the meal after consultation. 100 people = 100 flavors: D
